Trauma creates complex effects when it is repeated, occurs in the context of a primary relationship, or occurs when very young. These complex effects require multifaceted therapy for recovery. In this workshop, Dr. Barbara Gilbert offers a model for complex trauma recovery therapy. This model integrates wide-ranging literature on the impact and process of recovery from trauma. Dr. Gilbert specifically addresses implications for assisting those who have been overpowered by traumatizing dominance to regain true power, attending not only to interventions for the client but also to the therapist’s power practices. |
