EmpowerCE was created to provide high quality lifelong learning opportunities for psychologists and other therapists. EmpowerCE also makes in-person workshops more affordable and accessible to our community of psychologists in the central region of California, while providing those from other locations an opportunity for training in a beautiful vacation destination. EmpowerCE workshops especially address the dynamics of power. |
Grievance policy |
|
EmpowerCE is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists. EmpowerCE will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of the Co-Presidents, in consultation with members of the Consulting Committee.
While EmpowerCE goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there may be occasional issues which come to the attention of the continuing education staff which require intervention and/or action on the part of the continuing education staff or an officer of EmpowerCE. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.
When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance or expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken:
1. If the grievance concerns a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format and submitted to the Grievance Officer. The Grievance Officer will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.
2. If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the Grievance Officer will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the Grievance Officer will:
a. provide a credit for a subsequent EmpowerCE workshop or, b. provide a partial or full refund of the workshop fee.
Actions 2a and 2b will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by the grieved individual.
3. If the grievance concerns EmpowerCE Continuing Education program, in a specific regard, the Grievance Officer will attempt to arbitrate.
Please contact Jim Clark, Chief Technology Officer and Grievance Officer, P.O. Box 4842, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403 or email grievance@empowerce.com to submit a complaint or questions. |

We want to support psychologists in learning to recognize dysfunctional power practices in themselves and others, and the forces underlying such practices, as well as those forces and interventions that promote functional, effective power practices. We want to support psychologists to incorporate a clear understanding of power dynamics in all phases of treatment with individuals, couples, families, groups, organizations, and communities. We want to support psychologists in learning to train others with conscious implementation of functional use of their power as the trainers/supervisors. We want to support psychologists to build organizational contexts that institutionalize functional power practices. |
Accessibility |
|
It is our policy to make materials and workshops fully accessible. We encourage participants to let us know if large print materials or interpreters are needed. |
